Okay, let me start this off by saying… I don’t know squat about Azumanga Daioh. I had to Google it just to know what the heck was going on. Not that I’m a complete manga noob, but this one was outside of my range.

That being said, I enjoyed this mission. Backfire obviously put a lot of time into planning the custom enemies and writing dialog for every one of them, which I know from personal experience isn’t a walk in the park. The girls were challenging, but not overpowering for either my Level 32 Widow or my sneaky Level 1 Stalker (I normally use her only for taking screenshots inside missions). I would imagine that if you scaled this mission to a large team, we’d just get lots more of the CreepyStalkerGuys, which made me laugh even in small numbers.

I’m giving “Enter the Father Hat Gang”:

Storyline: 3 stars — Because the story is 100% niche-y, I would guess that not a huge audience would get what’s going on. That’s not to say the story is bad — it just limits the scope of enjoyment.

Design: 5 stars — Well-designed enemies, good powersets.

Gameplay: 4 stars — Due to the storyline, enemies and mission goals are very focused. CoH at its most basic — beat the heck outa stuff.

Detail: 5 stars — Again, every text field filled, and even the resting poses for the CreepyStalkerGuys were covered (the one with binoculars was particularly funny). And the advertisement JPG was a nice touch.

Nice work! Great to see the attention to detail. :)

I enjoyed it. I’ve never seen AzuManga before, but I do enjoy other anime, so I recognized the familiar anime girl types, and I thought the dialog was funny and fit well. I was running a duo with lvl 37 Trick Arrow/Psi and 39 Trick Arrow/Archery, with a couple other TAs joining before it was all over. Bosses were a little tricky, but not impossible for us. Story/motivation was a little muddy, which might be because I haven’t seen the anime, but remember a lot of the players probably haven’t seen it either. But overall fun nonetheless.

I have revised this mission a bit based on feedback. Should be even more solo-friendly now, as I’ve swapped out the mind control powers.

Also, revised a bit of dialogue and fixed some typos :)

    @GlaziusF

Running on a high 30s ice/axe brute, diff 2 so bosses is bosses.

Look, we both know the only thing sensei’s worried about is not getting cut in on this.

Or, yes, okay, she’s got a loan out from the “shoot out your kneecaps” type of creditors.

Hmm. Okay, you know what, I’m just going to jump to the statblock here, that’s where the discussion’s going to happen.

Storyline - **. And here’s why. If I take this at face value, there’s apparently some Mad Hatter out there who’s sending kids into the line of fire and playing with their minds, and I want to feed him my axe, plasma end first. This is probably exactly the wrong thing that you want me to think.

Y’know what’d work better for me as a framing device? “Yeah, uh… they’re my class from Ziggursky Reform School. I probably should have mentioned that, huh?”

Design - ****. Yep, that was definitely a bank. It’s kinda hard to make out details on min-height customs but I guess everything was alright? (maybe I shouldn’t have run on a max height tanker)

Gameplay - *****. Customs not wreckin’ hard. Total Focus was the only thing that brought me low on HP but coincidentally I was going into Hibernate at the time so it just healed up.

Detail - ***. Most of this is for how the storyline basically took this terrible dark turn because of a few incidental lines.

Overall - ***. I won’t say something as simple as “there was an obvious way to do this well and you didn’t do it”. AzuDai is at least two-thirds about how its cast play off each other, which is something that just isn’t available to you in the tools MA has to offer.
